Generally, our home is the biggest investment we make in our lifetime, so it is important to protect our largest asset. Termite invasions are frustrating, costly, damaging and downright devastating if they are not detected early. Eating from the inside out, termite damage is often substantial by the time it is detected if proper preventative methods are not put in place. In a matter of months termites can destroy million dollar homes.
Termite Inspection:
We recommend you have a professional termite inspection carried out by GEKA Pest Management in accordance with Australian standards to provide an assessment of the current status of your home in relation to termites. GEKA Pest Management will determine whether there are any visible signs of live termites and termite damage, conducive conditions around your home that could be attracting termites, and whether you have any termite protection in place to stop them.
Chemical termite barriers are highly effective methods for combating termite infestations around your home or structure, offering prolonged defence against termite attacks, giving homeowners peace of mind. Certain chemicals not only repel termites, they also effectively eliminate them and their colonies
Installing a chemical termite barrier typically involves the following steps
Prepare the area:
Clear away any debris from the perimeter of the structure for the chemical barrier to be effective. This may involve removing gardens against the structure, tree roots, vegetation, soil, mulch, rocks, retaining timbers or other materials or obstructions from the area to be treated that could interfere with the application of the termiticide.
Create a trench:
Dig a trench around the perimeter of the structure to be treated. Typically, the trench is dug approx. 150mm wide and down to the footings of the structure. Any tiled or concrete areas abutting the structure must be drilled to Australian standards 3660.2-2017, allowing the termiticide to be injected.
Chemical reticulation system:
In some soil areas around your home, there is an option of laying reticulation pipe for the ease of future chemical recharge of the chemical barrier system.
Apply the termiticide:
GEKA Pest Management only use the best when installing termite barriers. We use Termidor as it is considered the #1 non-repellent termiticide on the market for treating termites protecting the structure. Once Termidor is applied correctly, it will last up to 8 years and kills termite colonies within 90 days.
Backfill the trench:
After the termiticide has been applied, backfill the trench with the treated soil. Make sure the soil is evenly distributed and compacted to ensure proper coverage of the termiticide barrier.
Treat other vulnerable areas:
If there are other vulnerable areas around the structure, such as utility pipes or plumbing penetrations, GEKA Pest Management will apply the termiticide solution directly to these areas as well to create a continuous chemical barrier.
Follow-up inspections and reapplications:
Regularly inspect the treated area for signs of termite activity and reapply the termiticide as needed according to the manufacturer’s instructions or as recommended by GEKA Pest Management.
Termite baiting and monitoring systems are made up of individual stations installed at regular intervals as per Australian standard around your home, designed to intercept foraging termites. Termite baiting and monitoring systems are suitable for all homes and structures and is not limited by obstructions such as decking, pools, tiled areas and water tanks. These systems are also the best option for homes on multiple levels or with sloping blocks.
There are several different termite baiting systems available on the market today, and with over 25 years local experience in termite treatment, GEKA Pest Management are familiar with them all. GEKA Pest Management specialise and recommend the Trelona Advance Termite Baiting System which is the latest revolution in termite baiting technology developed to allow our professional technicians the opportunity to tailor the most appropriate termite management solution, for any Australian home.
Prior to installation of your Trelona termite Baiting System, our professional pest technician will conduct a thorough inspection of your home to determine, what management of termites within your home is required, what remedial steps may be required and the most appropriate installation and management plan for your home and circumstances.
Trelona termite baiting systems have far surpassed the standards when it comes to termite colony eradications and complete home protection against termites offering a complete termite protection unit which is installed around the perimeter of the property in order to safeguard the structure and internal timbers from termite attacks. These stations are installed into soil beds or concrete and contain an always active chemical canister that last on average between 3 and 5 years, which once consumed, start to kill off and transfer throughout the attacking termite colony meaning they are constantly working throughout the life span 24/7. The effective active chemical ‘Novaluron’ which are contained in these bait canisters are a game changer. Highly effective modes of transfer from worker termites feeding throughout the colony and how little consumption is required from the Trelona bait compared to other termite baits, in order to effectively and successfully eradicate the attacking termite colony time and time again.
Disturbing termites can cause the termites to retract from the disturbed areas and find other areas within the home to infest. If the termites have been disturbed, quickly cover the damaged area with some black gaffer tape.
